About Phil

Phil joined Morden in 2022 and brought with him a wealth of experience in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. With over 30 years of experience in the role, Phil started his career in the UK as a Quantity Surveyor and quickly progressed to Commercial Lead with the likes of Serco, Faithful and Gould, WS Atkins.

Experience

Since arriving in New Zealand in 2007, Phil has worked as a QS and Commercial Manager for Fletcher Building and Fletchers Interiors. He has completed many high-end, multimillion-dollar projects such as Hospitals, Prisons, and Education Centres. In 2019, Phil moved into a Commercial Manager role with a large construction company where he saw growth in revenue from $50m to $77m in just over three years.

Throughout his career, Phil has been involved in all aspects of the commercial parts of building and construction management. From setting budgets and strategic planning, managing overheads, board reporting, forecasting, pre-construction & tender submissions, and tracking year-end margins. He has also managed the legal & insurance sides of business, taking the lead on all issues requiring representation. Working at a senior level, he assisted in the strategic planning and implementation of best practices for commercial management. Phil has successfully been involved in creating training plans and managed to implement career paths for his teams.
