When we started Morden in 2021 we had a clear vision of what we wanted the company to be and what we wanted to achieve. Being nominated as a finalist in three categories of the 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards is an incredible achievement and testament to the hard work, dedication and excellence of the fabulous Team Morden.

Morden was born from identifying a gap in the construction industry for a project partner who could work closely with clients to understand and achieve their vision and needs, not push their own.

From just the two of us in the beginning (Dave and Phil), with hands-on construction experience and specialist skills in programming and planning, project management, quantity surveying, and construction management, we next set about hand-picking a local team of experts to join us.

In just over two years, our team has grown to include six full-time staff members. We have doubled in size by revenue and tripled in size by staff. Our goal is to continue to grow and develop in capability.

Our journey is just beginning, and we believe through good planning, execution and monitoring, we can achieve so much more.

We’re currently working on over $3 billion dollars worth of construction projects, ranging from one of the biggest infrastructure developments in New Zealand – the Interislander iReX project – to Mrs Jones retaining wall in Riverstone Terraces. We are more than happy to help on any project where we are needed. We provide the same level of professionalism no matter who we are working with. Everyone deserves their construction project to be what they hoped for, on time and on budget and the many referrals we get through word-of-mouth is testament to the service we provide in this industry. People appreciate our unique blend of consultancy smarts coupled with hands-on construction experience.

Excellence in Service & Support

This business category recognises excellence in a business whose main business is providing service rather than a product. The quality of the specialist service we provide in consultancy to the construction industry is one of the cornerstones of our business. We work alongside our clients to help them achieve their vision of a successful construction project on time and on budget.

Excellence in Construction, Trades & Infrastructure

This business category recognises business excellence within construction, trades and infrastructure or suppliers to these industries. No matter how we are helping our clients with their projects, and regardless of the area of the wider construction industry they work in, we always strive for excellence in all the services we provide. Our reputation is built on it.

Best Small Business

This special category recognises achievement in a business with up to ten full-time or equivalent employees. This category is the icing on the cake for us. We started off small and we still are a small team, with less than ten full time equivalent staff. Our small business is built on effective planning and delivery and we are proud to have achieved a lot in a short time. It is fantastic to be recognised in this category as well.

Whether we win any of these categories is unknown at this point. The fact we have been shortlisted is fantastic and makes us extremely proud to be standing alongside some of the Hutt Valley’s (and New Zealand’s) most successful businesses. We look forward to the grand event – the Gala Dinner where the winners are announced – on 17 November 2023.
